The Art of Coaching
The Art of Coaching project was born from a desire to capture the profound and often overlooked emotional landscape of coaching. Coaches live at the intersection of intensity and solitude, discipline and vulnerability, leadership and quiet reflection. Through this work, I set out to create stand-alone images that go beyond documentation—photographs that are interpretive, artistic, and deeply human.
Rather than presenting a journalistic narrative, each image is designed to evoke the essence of coaching itself—the moments of focus, the weight of responsibility, the quiet resilience, and the unspoken emotions that shape a coach’s experience.
The project began during the 2025–26 academic year with a focus on six coaches across five sports at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. I am deeply grateful to the coaches who welcomed me into their world and granted me full access to their practices, meetings, facilities, and games and matches. I also wish to thank the athletic department staff for their generous support, including field passes, building access, and ongoing encouragement throughout the project.
Together, the images form a visual dialogue that highlights the complexity and artistry of coaching—reminding us that it is not only about strategy and competition, but also about character, connection, and the relentless pursuit of growth.
